"Tympani" heads on bass drums-

Will tympani heads work on bass drums?Are they measured differently?I need some reso heads for a 20 bass,and there are tympani heads available.

It's hard enough trying to get the right size timpani heads for timpani. I'd hate to try figuring out fitment for a bass drum.

They are measured differently. Steve Weiss has a decent page on sizing info, which includes links to the Remo and Evans timpani sizing guides. Timpani heads also have little or no collar to speak of and may be pre-tensioned. They'll be thinner than bass heads, too.

Unless you've got an ancient odd-sized bass drum that you absolutely can't find conventional heads for, I personally wouldn't try it.
