The "old age" thing kicked in again and I neglected to include the pic in my last post.DOH
I picked up some Slingerland shells (22/13/16) in original WMP wrap some time ago that included the original Sound King lugs, tone controls, straight floor tom legs, and dual L-arm mounts on the bass drum. Also included in the sale were the original COB rims for the toms and one of the two original BD hoops with original WMP in-lay.
The BD and rack tom are stamped May & June 1958. The BD has the Chicago Black & Brass Badge while the RT has no badge. The FT is a little later model and has the Niles Black & Brass Badge.
Since I was anxious to hear how this kit would sound "completed" I mounted some coated ambassadors on the toms and an Aquarian Super Kick II on the BD. I then installed some BD claws and rods from another Slingy kit of mine as well as a pair of Slingy natural maple BD hoops I had and mounted my '57 Chevy resonant side BD head to add to the late '50s "vibe." The drums really do sound great. The snare drum in the pic is a 6 1/2 x 14 Ludwig Supraphonic.
If I end up keeping this kit, I'll definitely be mounting the "era-correct" rods and hoops on the bass drum (although I do love the look of the natural maple).
Just thought the B&W pic would be appropriate for that "OldSchool" feel!
