Hard to see clear but looks like thread damage. Either to the threads inside or remains of a old wingnut stuck in there. My guess it a stripped thread in the hole itself. You should be able to "break" it away with a small pair of needle nose plyers or screwdriver. Then use a small rat tail file to smooth the burr left inside. As long as there's enough good threads left it should hold as designed. Sorry to hear....that a good chunk of change to spend on a stand that needs more work~! hope it's a easy fix.

I'm going to take it to a friend who has fixed several issues of this type, ie.

screw broken off inside lug, via the tap-and-die (is that how it's spelled?) trick. I'm pretty sure that straight piece should just fall off with the right tool. I really don't want to mess this up because I'm pretty sure that if push came to shove I'd get reimbursed through paypal but again I really need that stand. It's at the very end and there's plenty of thread, just no room to work in. If I could get to it from behind there's no problem, but I can't so it has to be removed "surgically" with finesse. All I have is a hammer! I'm still not sure how this generated the replies I got from the seller. Did he have a bad day? There should be no question in his mind that the status of that stand was not as he stated and continues to state and yet he wants to be a jerk about it. Can't see how he's made so many transactions with that kind of professionalism, or lack of.

I'm sure your buddy will do just fine. Have him look closely at the wingscrew. He should be able to tell if it was threaded in there wrong or if it's a replacement. If it's a clean replacement the guy might have known unless he never really looked at the stand and was like that when he got it.

My guess the original screw was overtightened and stripped the last thread further in. You'd see some threads marred on the screw and a slight mushroom at the tip. When overtightened it pushes back out against the threads and strips.

well, the problem was "solved". It appears the threaded part of the base was at some point stripped out and the hole was tapped out and a new insert put in. The first row of the new insert somehow got bent and wouldn't allow the wing nut/screw to go all the way in. That's how I received the stand. My friend with the tap and die kit couldn't fix it via that route and we tried several ways to move that little piece, none working, so I had an idea. We ground the wing screw end down just a bit so it bypassed the piece that was in the way....and now it works.

Good for me but I'm still not at all happy with how this was handled by

Assuming he does a huge amount of deals it's possible he didn't know the stand didn't work but why, when asking such an overpriced amount to begin with and selling it for still an overpriced amount would he tell the buyer,"oh well, look at my feedback"? Maybe because we dealt outside of ebay and I can't give any feedback.

Yes bad business. Buy something from him that is dirt cheap and rip him to shreds on feedback no matter what happens in that new deal. You owe him one...........

thought of that, but I imagine he already has me blocked. He knows he did me wrong and with that many transactions I'm sure he also knows how to cover himself. I can't believe that I am so suprised at this. I guess I expect people to be straight, and why would I think that??

that sucks. real glad that you got it fixed up though. thats the important thing. these are great stands. ive got one setup in my music room right now.
