On the "Asama" drum posting there are definite similarities to MANY 80's imports. Certain Gretsch Blackhawk drums, Juggs, Emerald, R.O.C. just to name a few. Is/was Asama a drum company in Taiwan? Is/was it affiliated with Hoshino, who I'd always assumed was the builder of the "other" MIJ/MIT's.

my understanding is that there are both high and low quality of Hoshino. my recollection is that Gretsch Blackhawk had hardware that was thick yet made of cheap metal.
BTW - R.O.C. stands for Republic Of China and is like a "Made in Japan" stamp & was not a brand or model.
I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

R.O.C was a brand, I believe based in San Francisco in the 80's. They custom-built sets for customers. It featured hardware identical to Asama. Their ad in MD featured a HUGE concert tom set. The Asama tie in with Tama? I don't think so because even though the hardware looked similar, it's footprint and dimensions were different. And you are correct that the pot metal was a very low quality, very porous and prone to breakage.
