Keystone badge... Serial number is 68218... Felt is red... Strainer p-83.. does that add up to 1964??
Hmmm... how am I going to get that duct tape adhesive off that red felt???
Check out these sites, which list Ludwig Serial #'s;

Thanks... I had reviewed those numbers but what is throwing me off a little is that it appears in reading that the felt on the muffler should have been white in 1964 and it is clearly red on this drum...
So I was hoping maybe somebody could give me the date based on the combination of clues..
I guess it must be a '64 if it has a serial number..

Tape adhesive will dry out with time and just turn to dust that will rub off. Unless you're in a hurry, just let it age and disintegrate. That way it causes no damage whatsoever.

Most respect the badge, but all fear the drum.
'64 is red felt....mine is, anyway.
"Changed to white in 1964" must mean at the end of the '64.
Thanks all.. I'm really looking forward to cleaning this drum up.

There's only a year difference. Maybe they just had materials to use up. Lots of examples of that when a part "officially" changes in one year but the actual introduction is sort of mixed - especially in older gear, when manufacturers didn't want to waste a part just because it was for last year's model.
