Questions about recent selling of vintage drum sets

Loading...

Hi VDF,

I had some questions for the VDF brain trust about selling during this challenging time:

Are people still buying?

How have you handled in person sales?

What payment method seems to be preferred: Venmo, PayPal?

Is cash still king?

Some background:

I have a set that I wanted to sell before this all started because I just don’t play them. I want to sell locally so I don’t have to deal with shipping. I also wanted to first post on the VDF since I know members here would appreciate the set and as a way to say thanks for all the knowledge I have gained over the years here!

Thanks in advance for your responses! ✌️

I've bought and sold a few times during this, um, unique time. To be safe, wear masks and gloves and do the transaction outside. Some people want to do a PayPal/Venmo transaction, and that's fine, but it needs to be communicated ahead of time if cash is preferred or not okay.

Sorry for the REALLY late response!

The kit is my 1971 Ludwig Super Classics in Blue Sparkle 13/16/22.

I bought it in 2013 and have only played it a couple of times.

I also bought a matching concert tom that I was going to add bottom lugs but never did. Not sure if I should sell separately.

I also bought a 1961 Ludwig Cocktail Lounge drum 24 x 16 in blue sparkle to use as a second floor tom. Again not sure if I should sell separately.

Thoughts?

Well...MY opinion is that you won't add to the collectible value by including the extra drums. The best way to sell is to sell a named, configuration of matching drums and as much of the original (or proper replacements) of the hardware as possible. A named, matching configuration is where your strongest money will be. The other drums can be sold in a separate auction, but include a "heads-up" that you re selling the kit, too.

I've bought and sold many kits since this whole thing started. Some in person and some with Reverb. The ones in person was always cash.
