Questions about 70s Ludwig kit and Zildjian ride I just got.

From K.O.

Actually I'd just leave the Rogers stuff alone as well if it were mine. Extra holes are extra holes no matter how well they are patched. That Rogers stuff appears to be original to the drums so they'd be much more desirable with that all left in place. All that is part of this set's history and they don't look to be a "butcher" job done by some later owner. You mentioned using just one tom. That tom mounted on a Rogers swivo arm will sound better and be easier to put where you want it than putting it in a snare stand. Use the other collet base to hold a swivo cymbal arm and you're golden. For the hoop order up a generic 24" maple hoop from wherever, clear coat it with some clear lacquer and problem solved, no inlay required...one of the benefits of having a "wood" finish set.Long story short...you have a very nice set there, don't mess it up.

I have actually looked for a Roger's cymbal arm to do exactly what you said, but all I can come up with is an L shaped arm. From pictures I have seen those seem to be mounted down lower on the side of the drum. If I could find a swivo arm to get my ride where I like it then that would be another option. Also I am kind of short, so I mount my drums low, hence having the tom on a snare stand. I want to make this work without doing anything to the kit that would damage it, but at the same time I want to set it up to work for me.

Here is a picture of the pearl kit I used to have for a reference of how I want these luddys set up in the end. If you can lead me to the correct swivo cymbal arm, I would greatly appreciate it. I do have a lead on a couple unfinished hoops, brand new, so thats what I will probably end up doing until I can find the correct Ludwig hoop.

Here's the cymbal arm that should work...if you can find one. It would be a "vintage" part.

Even if you opt not to use them I'd leave the Rogers plates in place. Not that obtrusive and better than filled holes....IMO anyhow.

Thank you, I will keep a watch out for one of those!

The Zildjian ride I got with is a 60s 22". It weighs 2633 grams. Seems normal, but it was stamped twice at the factory. Is it normal to find 2 stamps on a zildjian cymbal?

Anyone answer this part of his question or did I miss it? Two stamps are odd...right??

Odd yes, generally should only be one stamp. I don't think the extra stamp will add any appreciable value though, despite being unusual.

I think its odd also. I tried searching the internet to see if I could find pictures of any others. I couldn't, only a couple that had been stamped twice in the same spot. Almost like it didn't go deep enough the first time, so they restruck it. The stamps on mine are a few inches apart. Oh well, double stamped or not, its definitely a sweet sounding ride with a huge sounding bell!
