Anyone ever heard of the 'Artist Ltd" brand or know anything about them?
Also, are any of the 60's Japanese drums worth buying and fixing up?
Thanks!

Sorry, never heard of ...
What makes you sure that it comes from Japan?
Vintage Japanes drums could be excellent - or just crap ...
Depends on the general condition (original vs. rebuilt),
hardware parts etc. etc.
Any pics? This will be very helpful to give more comments.

I must have a look at the tom holder system on the
other side of the tom to be 100 % sure.
But all what I see makes it look like being part of the
Star family (Star was the predecessor of Tama) ...
Can you, please, make a pic of the tom mounting system,
if you hold the set in your hands? (If I'm right, there will
be a rail consolette on the bass drum and a bracket
with a slot in it ...)
Ralf
NB 1: congrats, it appears to be a bargain!
NB 2: If it's indeed belonging to Star, then you don't have
to add a floor tom to make it complete. The combination
you have was also quite usual in the 60s.
I have not yet recieved the kit. Should be here later this week. I'll send a few shots after it comes in. Thanks much!
Regarding the sound of the Japanese stencil kits, today I purchased a 20" red sparkle BD that just says Made In Japan around the gromet. This thing was nearly a museum piece. It looks as if someone played it for 10 min and then stored it in the closet for 40 years (here in the Pacific NW where it is pretty humid, you just dont find old drums in this kind of shape...)
Anyway, it was in such good shape that the only things I did to it were add a drop of 3 in 1 oil on the tips of the T-rods and swapped out the batter head for an Aquarian coated double ply that I had laying around. I haven't played it with a full set yet, but with just a preliminary tuning, the thing BOOMED!!!
I'm super excited about it, and it was only 50 bucks! Anyway, point being, that these drums can indeed sound AWESOME! Yeah, they may need some TLC, but what instrument that is 40 years old doesn't?
Nice score, by the way...
Got the kit today. Really pleased. Not bad for $71. Had to buy a front head and had heads for the others. Had to add snares which I had already too. Here are the shots you asked for. When at Guitar Center I looked at the vintage kit lugs. These look identical to Slingerland. Maybe I could add a Sling floor tom down the road as I doubt I'll ever find one of these. Any additional info appreciated.
Here is the photos link.

PS
The drums have no re-enforcement rings and the wood grain runs horizontally unlike many of these kits. Not sure if this is good, bad, or meaningless?
The company DW says it makes a difference if the grain
runs vertical .....
I don't know 'cause I've never been able to compare those
different shells.
As I promised, the rail consolette and the slotted bracket are there...!
But that type of a rail consolette was NOT used by STAR... Maybe
it is some kind of a special export edition to the US?
Can you make another close-up and sharp pic of the badge and the
snare strainer, and of the tom arm on the rail consolette, please?
Ralf
These look exactly like the Majestics I just picked up. The hardware is identical to my blue sparkle and the color matches too. Are these possibly from the same Pearl stencil line as the Majestics? Rail, lugs all are the same stuff as on mine. They look to be in good shape. Is the interior painted a tan color? Mine were factory sprayed, and all of the shells are "matched" with the same serial or production number stamp on the inside, 4468.
