Question about Zildjians with my vintage Gretsch kit

Howdy all,

I posted pics of a vintage Gretsch Progressive Jazz kit that I'm selling for a friend a few weeks ago and now I have some questions about the cymbals. There is a set of 13" Zildjian hats and an 18" Zildjian ride. I had never heard of a trans stamp before today when I was looking through a thread or two here, so I wondered if you had any info about the cymbals I have. Pics attached. I'm writing the copy for the auction on eBay and hope to have the kit listed within the week. Selling the cymbals separately...

[COLOR="DarkRed"]1st stamp shown is a trans-stamp guitar3 The other two are 1950's. lf the 18"s the trans-stamp it's worth about $250 if it's a medium or lighter. On auction it could get into a bid war and do better than that. 13" '50's hats are worth about $135-175[/COLOR]

Thanks for your reply. I'll find a scale that measures in grams and weigh them before listing. If you don't mind my asking, what is the definition of a trans-stamp?

There are 4 types. This one is the most common:

The common characteristic that they all share is in how the trademark is impressed more deeply on the right and left edges than in the middle.

Thanks again! I guess what I meant to ask is, what does the trans-stamp denote? I mean...does it date the cymbal to a certain period? They're obviously more desirable than non-trans-stampers...but why?

And while I'm barraging y'all with questions; what does it stand for? Transitional? Transformative? Perhaps there was a guy in the Zildjian factory back then that wore a dress while he worked...if so, the trans-stamp could mean...ah hell...forget it!

That stands for transitional. These are highly sought after these days now that they are recognizable by trademark. The reason why is that they are in demand and are priced so high, is that they hand hammered. This was in many ways Zildjian's golden era for cymbals. Most of these are from the early 1950's. But one type dates back to the later 1940's.
