Hello everybody,I need some light on maple shells. The 60-ties Gretsch RB famous 6 ply shells. Are they all maple or some combination.Same question about Ludwig shells from around 1976,when they started 6 ply?A ask this because I found information that the first all maple shell was Rogers-Keller XP-8 from 1978.

Thank you

Gretsch shells were a combination of maple and gumwood. Ludwig 6ply shells were maple and poplar I believe.

The ludwig shell guide posted by patrick, directly from the ludwig site, says 6ply maple/poplar??? A few other sources I've found say the same.
