Question about cymbals just recieved

I have just recieved some cymbals that have some names recorded under the bells of some of them. The names under the bells are Dave weckel? Vinny?Calutie? I,ll have to check them again for the spellings, as I haven,t really had time to inspect them properly.

I assume they are ink stamped signatures for the drummers that endorse the type of cymbals.

All the cymbals I have range from 21" heavy rides down to small crashes & splash cymbals. Makers are,( may not be spelled right),Zilgin & Zilgin K, Paistes, HH something or other,Sabians, china boys and other Hi Hat sets.

One matched pair of Hi Hats has wavy edges on the bottom hat, I,ve never played a set of those but intend to enjoy them.

Questions: Are the stamped signature cymbals worth more than regular non stamped cymbals. I would assume they are not, as both these drummers are well known and have probably endorsed many styles.

: What should I look for as far as age, or other unique qualities? I don,t have any knowledge of the collectable cymbals at all. Only the sounds that I know I like.

You sure those are the names on 'em? It's a bit of a tradition with some cymbal makers for hand-crafted cymbals to be signed by the artisan who made them. Among common production cymbals, the Sabian HH line continues this practice.

Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta are drummers, as you know.

My guess is these were 'their' cymbal series, created by the company that made 'em, endorsed by the artists and such.....and these are ink-stamped signatures which went along with the ink logos on the cymbals...

Now, if they were really signatures (i.e. signed by hand with a Sharpie or such...) that'd be kinda cool....

But I digress....

Neither of those series of cymbals are particularly considered collectible, really.

You list a lotta cymbals, a bit nebulously. The possibility that you have some cool stuff there is enticing, based upon what you have written thus far...but if you posted some pics of them and gave a more precise listing of what they read, we'd be able to tell you if any are particularly sought after or not.

This is not uncommon with signature models. For example, the Bosphorous Hammer series has ink stamped signatures of Jeff Hamilton on the bottom side, which almost look like they were signed by hand. I know they're not though, because I asked him.

I have photos of the cymbals in the vintage drum thread. They are in my post of " Gretsch round badge question".

My didital Camera is an older model and I did as best as i could with the photos. I can take single photos if needed but I am really looking to solve the mystery of the names/ink stamps under the bell. There are three Daves & 2 Vinnys? Also what other cymbals do I have as I only have used Ziljins?

Your Dave Weckl's are Sabians, probably the HHX Evolution series. I'm guessing the Vinnie Colaiuta signature cymbals are Zildjian A customs. If the ink stamped signatures are still intact the embossed stamps in the metal should still be there. You should be able to clearly identify them as Sabian and Zildjian stamps. They are not really vintage cymbals. and while they certainly have value as used cymbals, they are not particularly valuable in the same way a vintage old K, some old A's, or some old Paiste's would be.

Thanks for the information. I am not worried about age or the value of the cymbals I was interested in how the ink stamped names got placed on the cymbals and now I know . I know nothing about cymbals, just their sounds. Apparently these well known drummers endorsed the lines of cymbals with their Names. I never noticed names on cymbals before, Just wondering? Thanks again.
