Question about a Strange 60's Ludwig Kick Drum Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

So this is the kick drum from the lot that I posted earlier and it has me a bit perplexed. It's a 4 digit (1963-1964) 20 inch kick that has a matching 12 inch tom. The kick drum that has been modified with a diamond plate mount for the toms which is pretty common. What has me baffled are the spurs on this thing. They are club date style versus downbeat and there are 2 sets of them that actually look factory to my eyes. The wrap is clean and tucked into the scarf. The inside of this thing is immaculate other then the hole made for the diamond mount. Has anyone ever seen a 1960's Ludwig with this spur configuration? Check the pics and let me know what you think.

May have to keep this one! Trying to decide what stays and what goes from this latest purchase. Couldn't afford to buy it in the first place and could not afford to pass it up either!. Leaning toward keeping the snare and the cymbals and unloading the drums. Mainly because I already have a complete 64 down beat. Thanks for the insight fellas!

Fairly common way to order spurs at the time. Some folks preferred the disappearing spurs to the fold outs and some thought 4 were better than two. Double spurs, double mufflers, readily available if you asked for it despite not being shown on the "catalog" sets.

Look at early pictures of Carmine Appiece his natural kit as well as John Bonhams (since it was ordered just like Carmines both had two sets of those spurs...
