Seems high to me...but what do I know. I have a kit that I'm restoring and I didn't pay anywhere near that (more than a grand less). My kit has a COB Powertone snare vice the Dyna. Mine is a Londoner. I don't know. That just seems very high to me.

Mosteller, where was the drum set made? The Ohio made Rogers are more valuable. Do all the drums have their Rogers' stickers? All original? Did you check the wrap seams? (I know you posted mint, but..) $1800 is way high, but...the prices on Ebay have been real high as of late for the good stuff. Dynasonics (metal) go for $200-$400 (depending on condition), if that helps.

I have given up on finding a sweet deal on Rogers, the cat is out of the bag. I got my late 60's kit for $400 (with dynasonic) only 8 years ago. I'm not writing that to brag, I'm saying that to show the huge jump in price for collectable Rogers gear.

I think $1800 is way high, but, someone out there will pay it. Rogers made great stuff, there's a limited supply, and it will not be made like that anymore. Can you make an offer?

Oh, pictures help, too.

Mosteller:

For whatever it might be worth, I sold three Cleveland-era Rogers Holiday pieces in Red Onyx about 6 months ago for $1,100. They consisted of a 20 inch bass drum / 12 inch rack tom / and 14 inch floor tom.

As I'm sure you're aware, the 14 inch floor toms seem to bring significantly more money than the traditional 16 inch toms.

It's my understanding that the buyer then added a matching Red Onyx Powertone snare for $500, bringing the grand total to (drum roll, please!) $1,600.

Obviously, the sizes of the pieces I sold differ substantially to those that you're considering.

A Rogers 24,13,16 is a very different beast than the standard configuartion of 20,12,16. Those 24" Rogers are amazing drums.

Super B has an excellent point re eras. If the kit is a Cleveland with a 24" beavertail bass drum, $1800 is a bargain. Pay the seller his asking price and run! I seriously doubt it is as I haven't seen a 24" Clev beavertail bass drum in years. (In fact you don't see many 22" bass drums from this era either.) They start making a bit of an appearance in the Dayton era, but still very scarce. Fullerton ushers in the age of the 24 and they become as common as 20" bass drums in the mid 60's. For a Fullerton kit, the price might be a tad high, but red onyx is a desirable finish.

Bottom line.... Cleveland and Dayton: Buy it and run..... Fullerton maybe a bit high. Just depends on how bad you want it.... Opinion is subject to change depending on the photos and details.

Good luck.

Cleveland 24"....really ? Wow.

It's not a terrible price...it's not a great price.

The seller is actually offering about what he could get currently in market value...maybe asking a few hundred over.

BUT, if the snare really IS a NOS ('new old stock'), then the $1800 makes sense.

If the snare is just in "almost new" condition...then probably $1400-1600 is a realistic price if he doesn't plan on sitting on it for several months....

Double check the Cleveland status on that bass drum. I have seen many more Clev 18" bass drums than I have 24s. IMHO, that is a real treat. You might also post the serial numbers.

I would still like to see a photo or two of the interiors and tags. There were a few Clev tags floating around on drums that were made in Fullerton around the time of the switch (when they used up old labels). Make sure the interiors of the toms are flat grey and not speckled gray, round washers instead of star washers, black mufflers and not white mufflers.

Not that I am skeptical, but I have seen alot of Rogers over the past several years, and don't remember seeing a Clev beavertail 24. If all is correct and it's a Cleveland, $1800 is a bargain (with or without the dyna). Big time collector drum - especially if they are in unmolested condition.

Good luck!

Wow, did not expect a Cleveland tag. Cool. The plot thickens....
