Question about 1930's L&L Super Sensitive snare drums Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Loading...

I picked up a 6.5 Ludwig Super Sensitive with a date stamp April 1937. Judging from the catalog scans, it looks like the Super Sensitive model (top and bottom strainers) was last listed in the 1936 L&L catalog. Does anyone here own post 1936 SS snare drums? It looks like a Silver Anniversary model. I'm just curious to see if super sensitive drums with post 1936 stamps are rare birds. I will post photos when I receive the drum.

Many thanks!

The drum arrived, 6.5x14 Super Sensitive... a few before photos. The drum has an April 1937 date stamp, Imperial lugs with inserts (for those keeping track, my July 1936 Super does not have inserts). THANKFULLY...the top and bottom snares are complete with no missing or broken wires.

Found out from the seller that the drum was found at a storage locker sale in Chicago.

I am still curious to see if anyone else here owns post 1936 Super Sensitive drums... just how late did they produce them?

It should be another fun restoration. I'll post photos when it's done.

I know that the "Super-Ludwig" appears in the 1940 catalog, and Rob Cook's book notes them to have been manufactured through 1941. OOPS! Just noticed that it was a Super-Sensitive!

The Super-Sensitive is not listed in the 1937 catalog. You've probably got one of the few with lug inserts...good on you!
