Quality Control

I went to my local drum store this weekend and saw a new Ludwig kit that is being sent back due to the shells being badly out of round, I was thinking of getting a new kit for gigs, I have always liked Ludwig and have 2 vintage kits, but now I am considering buying a Yamaha Live custom. As anybody had problems with the new Ludwig's being out of round

thanks

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new Ludwig. The new snare drums I've purchased were perfect to me.

Based on posts I've read on other forums, flaws and defects exist from all the major manufacturers.

The only way I could see a new shell being out-of-round would be from a major moisture content change in the wood.

Some QA issues on the new Copperphonics from what I've heard from one of our local Ludwig dealers.

Bearing edges were uneven on a couple of them and had to be sent back.

I'd be curious to know just how out of round they are. My 2012 Maple Classic Downbeat had bearing edges that were not as level as I thought they should be, but all the shells were in round.

You need to use a vintage kit they sound better and have a higher build quality ... Gary

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
