I love that Cadillac Green color, especially in daylight.

I'd DEFINITELY go with the gold. The silver sparkle doesn't "pop" like the gold. The gold also goes better with the badges IMHO.
I've already spent just under $4000 getting these drums to this stage. I'm not prepared to spend more. In fact....when I do decide to sell them I would be asking about $2500....and that still is more than most would want to pay. I would have to find just the right buyer for these or I'd be giving them away....more or less. I know you generally do not recoupe what you spend on the darling little vintage drums we love so much....so I'm okay with taking somewhat of a hit. These drums are a lot better in real life and if someone is looking for some Gretsch 3ply 50's shells with a nice paint job and beautiful hardware....these are them. Just for fun a week or so I looked around on ebay and other sites and came up with a price on parting the shells and hardware out. I did not include the $1500+ paint job...and I came up with $2400...for the shells/tom&snare&bd Hoops/badges/tension rods/lugs and the rest. That $2400 was a middle-of-the-road pricing. That's where I came up with the $2500....have to ask at least $100 for paint job. I'd be happy with $2500 and someone that's looking for exactly these drums would be getting a good deal....no work restoring etc.....ready to hit the pavement.
It was not my intention. I think that if you invest cash to restoration of the kit,on some level it makes set "a keeper". If I was you, I would do one step more (brass or even gold plated hardware) just for my own pleasure, especially if almost double value is already spent in the kit. Well, that's my point of view.
Maybe just put the kit on the ebay from 0.99 and let the game begin?
Anyway, the kit is great and if I was the owner - it is a keeper.

Thanks snurf
I appreciate what you're saying.
Lifestyle change coming up...fast:
Being a bit of a hoarder that I am....from 2009 to today...I have amassed three vintage kits and many old snare drums and toms...way too many to take into a/my retirement life. My wife and I have some travel plans and we will be downsizing our residence even further than we did by selling our home and moving last summer. We're both retired and I'm getting re-tired of having to store/setup/ and find time for all this stuff. If I were rich I would keep going with the collecting.....on the scale of other noted collectors - I enjoy it and I love drums. I'm not rich and I'm okay with that. I gave it a shot and it was and still is fun.
There's more drum drama that I need around these drums. Yesterday, when I was putting the infamous...expensive...MS strainer on the snare drum and it's starting to wear out....typical for these strainers. I could buy one of the repros from Steve Maxwell for this drum - I did that for my late 50's Gold Sparkle kit...but I don't want to spend more money. I did spend more money yesterday - I ordered a 22" Fiberskyn head with offset Gretsch logo....$77 Cnd.
I'm keeping my 6pc Purewood kit...for now & my Gold Spkl Kit...for now...and I will NOT sell my 2011 'signed by Mr. Fred Gretsch & Paul Cooper' little Champagne Sparkle kit.....
I will sell the Cadi Green kit and the 40's kit.......even if I have to part them out.
If anyone here is in slightest bit interested in either kit...make me an offer...I don't care how low it is ....all I can say is yes or no and I will NOT be offended.
Gary
Here's what I'm going to do. I will put the drums for sale on C/L and Kijiji.....at a reduced price. I will also try to sell them locally.
There's the Green ones.....as of yesterday....I have the bass drum packed away until my new reso head arrives.
Here's one of the Gretsch 125th Anniversary Shellpack options.
Cadillac Green, chrome hardware and bd with Silver Sparkle inaly.
I think it looks pretty nice.
The gold and silver are nice. but
I'm gonna go against the grain and say chrome inlay to match the chrome hoops on the toms.

Yup, I think so too..

I like the gold! However - if you decide to go with the green or silver - I would indeed do both - cut a sliver of green and land it on top (middle) of the silver. Just an idea - would like to see a pic of that if you do a mock-up.

Whoa! That's way too much work for me. And I was only kidding about the little Green Sparkle chicks on the tom.
But, thinking about it just now....it sure would look nice to have wood hoops with silver inlay and timpany t-rods just like in days gone by. If I were set up to do that I would like to give it a try.
I'm playing the snare, tom and floor tom right now with my 18" Champagne sparkle 2011 bd & floor tom. They're sounding very good.
Looking at all those photos, I have to weigh in my vote for the gold sparkle. The silver sparkle just kind of sits there. It's nice and all, but the gold really pops. As to silver and gold together, big name interior designers have been mixing and matching the two for quite some time now.
