I am cleaning up some Ludwig standards that will soon be up for sale. the tone control is missing on all three toms. I'm guessing these are from the late 60's and would like to know what tone control would have been used. Thx jim

Jim,

Ludwig has a tone control (part # P40662) that is available at Ludwig dealers and many online sites that is pretty much a "copy" of the ones they used in the late 60s & on. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I do believe they will fit the ITC holes on the Ludwig Standards.

I've used the new ones refurbishing old Ludwig classic sets/drums, and that's why I think they'd fit.

Fishwaltz (and/or others) may be a more reliable voice on this, however...

Hi Folks!

The Ludwig Standard muffler or tone control knob is smaller than the Classic model. It's kind of an anomaly, but is findable. I'd look at Standard shells that are beyond repair, or very, very early Rockers. Some of the S/L kits used Standard stuff as well, but not all.

Here's a good question, I should do the ground work on this!

Does the Standard tone control bracket mounting holes match with the Classic's? Hmmm...

How ya doing, Bill? Great here!

So... your saying i need a smaller knob in order to be authentic? I am fixing these up to sell and 100 percent originality is not that important to me. will this one fit the original hole spacing?

The "Standard" muffler knob was also used on the 60's and most of the 70's Acrolites as well. I've attached a few pictures from one of my Standard Acrolite drums. You can use the larger knob, but you might have to use two of those white nylon washers to put the knob out past the upper hoop. Many of the Classic series toms, and even the snare drums, will have two of these white nylon washers. The Standard knob extends out more than the large round knob.

The muffler assembly itself is identical to the Classic, so, yes, it matches!
