I'm looking to add a tom to my existing BigR MemriLoc XP-8 TSB kit. I have a line on a Metallic Gold (76-84) tom with perfect hardware. If it's an XP-8 shell, I know I have a good finish ply to work with.
HOWEVER, if it's a pre-XP-8 shell, I don't know what kind of finish ply is lurking under that wrap.
Any opinions out there on pre-XP-8 finish plys? Also, I've read that Rogers wraps can be tough to remove - true?
[COLOR="Green"]The plastic laminate wraps are hella hard to remove because a heat stripper doesn't work very well on that thick of a wrap. It's not like it's impossible...it'll just take you 3-4x as long as a standard wrap material would.
But here's the thing..."pre-XP8" shells....
....aren't those the 3-ply shells with speckled interiors ? If so....you don't really wanna add that tom to a kit of Xp8's...the shell is a different animal altogether...different thickness, different edge. More resonant than an XP8......[/COLOR]
