Projects during stay-at-home times

My wife and I have been pretty much staying in the house since February. We will venture out for necessary trips to various doctors' offices for procedures that cannot be handled with video virtual doctor's appointments.

During our self-imposed socially-restricted lives, I have had the urge to do some vintage drum projects. These two projects were a lot of fun, fairly inexpensive, and relatively easy to complete. I have owned these two sets of bongos for several years. The Leedy bongos had been re-wrapped in Satin Flame to be used with my Clown Barf set that I traded away in 2013. I ordered wrap from Precision that is very close to the Black Diamond Pearl wrap of my Leedy Shelly Manne set. The Ludwig bongos had been re-wrapped to match a Red Sparkle Leedy set that I sold back in 2013. I Acquired some Silver Glass Glitter wrap that is a fairly close match to my 1966 Rogers set. One bongo set has tom-type heads and rims and the other bongo set has traditional bongo/conga heads and rims. I haven't tried it yet, but I think that I could use either type of head and rim on either of the bongos.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Nice project and looking good.

I have been trying to inventory most of my stuff and been working on a late 20's Ludwig trap kit and 30's Rose Pearl Walberg and Auge kit. Can keep you pretty busy.

I have done some writing. My fourth article in five months should be in Not So Modern Drummer today. You can also see it at my website - www.gretschdrumdatingguide.com]

I have also purchased a few drums at local sales and spent some time cleaning those.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

What a great idea for a thread, leedybdp! Your project looks very cool! For the last couple of weeks, I have been assembling a bit of a Star-Ludwig hybrid snare. So far, I have taken a deep 6 1/2 inch Star eight lug snare which sounds quite good on its own, stripped it down and polished it, expanded the lug mounting holes slightly, installed Ludwig Imperial lugs with brass plated t-rods, bought new S-Hoops, replaced the heads with Remo Ambassadors, obtained a set of Puresound wires and ordered some nylon sleeved washers. I am now putting together a conversion piece made from old parts which will allow me to mount a Ludwig P-85 strainer to the shell without drilling. This drum will probably never sound as good as my Supra, but it's fun just working on the project!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
