Forgive me, but I just gotta ask. What specifically is this clamp for on the back of a Ludwig/Atlas double Tom mount? I assume it’s meant to attach maybe a bar for aux percussion or a cymbal mount? If so, is it really meant to clamp a metal object to another? I would think it would strip the chrome off due to abrasion over time.

It's looks like the carry overdesign from the LAP256STH - essentially killing two stones with one bird. Can it lead to scratching the chrome? Maybe if you're not really careful or if you're moving the setup a couple times a week it may happen.

I have extensively used the type of clamp illustrated (in many differing brands) to customize my setup with multiple toms, cymbals and E-pads. If you are careful you can gig and not have too much 'destruction' of the tubes used to mount pieces. If you tighten too much you can scratch or distort the tube, depending on the quality... but overall durability is good! These are invaluable to me as a gigging drummer with the versatility!
