Pricing Help - 1970 Ludwig OBP

Loading...

Learned vintage drum enthusiasts,

I have decided to sell my 1970 Ludwig drum set in Oyster Black Pearl. I am seeking some advice on the pricing.

They consist of 12, 13, 16 and 22. All drums have shiny wrap with no lifting. Upon close inspection, you can see light scuffs and scratches. I believe the scratches are due to polishing with a not-fine-enough compound. They are visible in the photos I took, but may not show in the reduced-resolution photos I am posting. The scratches are not visible from beyond a few feet. The wrap has excellent depth.

The drums all have maple interiors. The 12 has no stamp. The 13 is stamped Dec 16, 1970, the 16 is stamped Dec 15, 1970, and the bass drum Nov 30 (the year is illegible).

Serials are 835805, 831424, 835422, and 823550. All badges are securely attached and in good shape, although some bear a few scratches.

There are a few issues with them: The bass drum must have been drilled at 4:45pm pm on a Friday - the wrap seam is at 3:00 o'clock on the drum when viewed from the front;

The floor tom took a shot at one point mid-shell. There is a not-too-wonderful patch on the interior of the drum. I cannot see the impact point on the exterior, but I can feel it if I know where to check. The wrap is intact and is a non-issue regarding playability. Also, the resonant hoop is slightly warped but can be tensioned properly.

They are great sounding drums, and I have used them for several home recordings with great results.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Josh

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I forgot to mention the chrome. It is all in excellent condition with zero pitting or rust.

I'd guesstimate 1500 bucks. Would be more except for floor tom issue.

Pretty cool on those dates! I was born Dec 18 1970 and that was a Friday. I have a supra with that date stamped inside. good luck on the sale. These look very nice.

Thanks. I have a lo-ball offer of $1250 on CL. I saw another set like mine in the SF Bay Area for $1850 without the issues mine have, presumably. I will stick near $1500 for a while.
