I am just glad I lucked out and have two nice vintage sets from the English factory. Some Resonators, and a beautiful Beverly set. They are such nice drums.

Lots of reasons why they'd move to shut down UK production, but most of it is due to the sluggish world economy and the increased competition, making right now the worst time to (re)introduce a high-end brand or line of drums or percussion-related products. The Premier brand was essentially ruined sometime ago and no amount of reorganizing it - from Yamaha to the current gang of bankers/creditors - could've saved it.

I own two vintage British Premier kits: One 'on the cusp' late 60's all birch shell construction with pre-international 12"/16", international 22"/14", and a birch Royal Ace snare. The other is '72 mahogany shells 22"/12"/13"/16" along with birch bongos and a 4pce set of birch stand mounted single headed toms and a COA 2000 snare. Exquisite British design and craftsmanship. Not to mention being arguably the most beautiful drums ever manufactured. I know it's mere snobbery, but just owning and playing them make me feel to be a member of an exclusive worldwide club!
