Yes, a classic Premier finish, I remember it well. Looks great, well done.

This IS a Delmar wrap - not an original Premier. But true, Premier made a glitter close to this one - perhaps a tad more yellow, less orange.

The 10"x6½" is probably the only one in the world - unless there is someone else just as crazy. I took a very battered ex-Resonator 10"x9",

took the re-ring out, shortened the drum and put the re-ring back in.

Got some shorter lugs, recoated the drum - and yesterday real Premier diecast hoops were sent to me for them to relieve the Gretsches mounted here:

That is the short story - the longer is that the Resonator had been a Black Shadow, meaning it wasn´t coated, but had an extra layer of veneer. This made the drum thicker than the other toms, all wrong considering it is the smallest one....so, this layer of veneer had to come off. At first it went smoothly, but the last 3/4 of it was really well glued on by the factory. Knife, scraper, sandpaper and carefull application of muscle and sweat eventually got it off.

I am the kind of guy that really likes goes long roads to reach my goal.....but it feels so sweet when I get there. And, I always arrive...

The 14"x14" was also difficult - it had apparently been standing in very damp surroundings, so the bottom 15 mm of the drums veneer was rotten.

The re-ring was sound, so I cut off the veneer

and made a new ring of wood, glued it on and sanded new bearing edges on it.

Oh - and somebody had at sometime decided that a Pearl tom-holder was the right thing to attach to it. Sorry about the hole it leaves....so, I had to fix that too.

The inner layer of veneer was pretty splintered, so I filled the real hole with one piece of two-layer veneer, and made a larger patch of one-layer to make it look better on the inside.

The rest of the drums were pretty straightforward only the hole in the bassdrum from the tom-mount to close, as I wanted to exploit the thin drums resonance as much as I could by freeing them from hardware and hang them in modern rims:

The recoating itself is a nervewracking experience - make a mistake and you are doomed. But it is very rewarding to play on great sounding drums, that you have put so much effort into....

Yes, you are right, it was more yellow; I thought it was just the lighting or a shift in colour balance of the photo. Splendid job.
