I wouldn't be to freaked out of a 'pre-international' kit. I've owned a few, and yes, it's a bit more of a pain, but it's 2020, and we have the internet, buying heads is easy enough.
It's the same price as the Remo 'Classic Fit'.
So, if you found a PI kit and really fell in love with it, go for it.
That said, my preference in vintage Premier's is early to mid 70's, 3 ply African mahogany, standard size.
A few years ago, I bought a early 70's Premier AM kit; 22x14, 16x18, 16x15, 14x8, 13x9 and a 14x5 COA 2000 snare. I use the 22x14 with the 14x8 and 16x18, so the 16x15 and 13x9 have been put to the side...until now. I recently put those toms with my Stewart kick, and 2000 snare. SO FUN.
The 3 ply AM shell is by far my favorite vintage shell. Add in the cool low profile die cast hoops, sexy slotted tension rods, classy lugs, top chrome job, and there's much to love about vintage Premier's. Oh - the build quality. Imo, it's tops in that era. Finally - the price. Sadly (well, depending on if you're a buyer or seller), vintage Premier's sell for pretty cheap, in North America. If you're a buyer, you can get these amazing drums for a great deal. I mean, I paid $500.00 (CDN), for what I listed above, and it also included a huge box of vintage hardware.
