Wow, great idea! I'd do just what you're doing. One question...would you still be able to get heads on after the additional layer of wrap?

Thanks for the answer, good point. As far as I can see the custom order printed wraps available are not nearly as thick as regular drum wraps. There surely will be a difference but hopefully only for the one who knows… ;)

Or perhaps you could trim enough clearance for the heads that would be hidden once heads and rims are on?

You should be able to apply a wrap over the drum however you may get some buzz between the wraps. If you use a double side tape on the seam, it should not harm the wrap underneath. Given that it is a black wrap, I would measure between the skin rims and have a piece cut to size for it. It shoul not show through plus you can give a smudge of space if you need to tighten down on the tension rods. The threads on most of the lugs etc should be long enough to accommodate an additional layer of wrap.

I highly recommend contacting Magnus, a VDF member who owns Walopus Drum Wrap. I have bought so many different wraps from him for a project I am working on and his products are very high quality and easy to use. You can cut the wrap with a pair of Scissors.
