Premier Silver Star Wrap 'Do it yourself' ?

Loading...

Hi everyone,

I couldn't resist finally buying a 14" x 14" vintage Premier Floor Tom Jump For Joy………in original Black Wrap. Hmmmm

I'm wondering if I'll leave it that way or find a solution to visually integrate it in my 'Silver Star' 20,12,16 Kit. Since that Silver Star Wrap is not available anywhere I had the idea of taking a HighRes Photo of one of my other SS Drums and custom order a (not necessarily Drum-) Wrap myself. There a many options for that in today's multi media world.

Of course it wouldn't be original or collector's choice but I'd leave the old wrap underneath and would prepare a Photo together with a graphic designer regarding aspects like structure and size.

What do you guys think? Any Suggestions or ideas appreciated.

Thanks and have a good and sunny (like here) weekend,

Lars

Wow, great idea! I'd do just what you're doing. One question...would you still be able to get heads on after the additional layer of wrap?

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the answer, good point. As far as I can see the custom order printed wraps available are not nearly as thick as regular drum wraps. There surely will be a difference but hopefully only for the one who knows… ;)

Cheers,

Lars

Or perhaps you could trim enough clearance for the heads that would be hidden once heads and rims are on?

You should be able to apply a wrap over the drum however you may get some buzz between the wraps. If you use a double side tape on the seam, it should not harm the wrap underneath. Given that it is a black wrap, I would measure between the skin rims and have a piece cut to size for it. It shoul not show through plus you can give a smudge of space if you need to tighten down on the tension rods. The threads on most of the lugs etc should be long enough to accommodate an additional layer of wrap.

I highly recommend contacting Magnus, a VDF member who owns Walopus Drum Wrap. I have bought so many different wraps from him for a project I am working on and his products are very high quality and easy to use. You can cut the wrap with a pair of Scissors. Good luck and let us know how it works out

Michael

Ps. Thanks for the sunny and well wishes. It's a littl sunny here in Montreal but we got dumped with 10 cm (4") of snow over night and it's still coming down. What a nice April fools day joke from Mother Nature !
