Premier Royal Ace Strainer Alternative?

Loading...

Snare wires for the different Aces are unobtainable - or rather, you´d be very, very lucky to find a set.

You may have to go this route:

Regarding strainers for HiFis - this is the model 632, and they are easily obtainable at the different Premier Facebook groups - or ebay UK - for prices from 10 til 15£.

Great investment.

A lot of older british snares has quite narrow snarebeds, so fitting too wide sets of snarewires will result in excess buzz, as the outermost wires on both sides will be out of the snarebed.

Funny how long this thread has been going in regards to Royal Ace double 10 snare wires. I own a Royal Ace and it really does seem impossible to find new snare wires for it. At this point I think the only solution is to make them.

The wood Royal Ace and Hi Fi are the same shell with different hardware

I thought the lugs were the same though. My HiFi has the same lugs as the Royal Ace in that excellent snare resoldering link Jon Peterson put up. To wit (sorry about the low quality):

I have one of these snares, and there are a couple of things you can do.1. get new snares on ebay, etc, which is next to impossible.2. Make your own snares - you will need a 15" long snares and you have to solder the strings in place of the old one's, there's a good tutorial on this forum somewhere.3. Replace the throwoff, which ruins the snare.4 Do what I did - the snares attaches to the throwoff on this drum via thin bolt on either end. remove the bolts, buy a copper or aluminium tube with the diameter larger than the bolt. cut it slightly shorter than the length of the bolt, when it's inside the throwoff (hope this makes sense). Reassemble the throwoff with these tubes on the bolts on either end of the mechanism. Now get a set of modern snare wires, and attach with a wire going through the tube. Works like a charm and you don't have to ruin the drum :)I can take some pictures if you'd like

I'd like to see a pic of this :) Are you talking Royal Ace?

You can buy a long Pearl S-025 wires and successfully remake them.

Cheers,

George.
