Premier Royal Ace snare

I just picked up this nice Royal Ace. Does anyone know the rough age of it? Or when the red muffler was used? It came in a case with a WFL stand, sticks, Brushes and this rather cool drum key. Also some school concert programs dated 1963. I think, however, that the case may have held a different drum at some time being that it has the WFL stand and Gretsch and WFL sticks. But early 60s seems likely. It has plastic Everplay heads. Could these be original to this vintage?

Well, if it has the original plastic heads, that could date it at a starting point of 1958 when Premier first offered plastic heads, I wouldn't read to much into the colour of the muffler felts, they stuck on what ever was first out of the bin.

I think the key is just post war because it was easy to make, just a stamping. After the war I believe Premier was working with limited resources. It also might be pre-war, I might have seen it in one of the 1930s catalogs, go over to drum archive.com

Thanks Capt, good to know. I had thought the muffler color might be a bit like Ludwig but it makes sense that they may have used whatever color was around.

I'll have a search in the over at Drum archive for the key.

Cheers
