Premier rack tom: which series?

Loading...

Hello everyone,

I just bought this old premier kit. The toms look pretty much like on Jbeat's drum kit pictured in the previous posts. Could anyone help me indentify this kit?

It appears to be from the early 1990s, as it has the single high tension lugs which appear in the 1990s premier catalogue. Even so I have difficulties identyfing it. The sizes of toms would indicate that this is a projector (12x10 and 13x11) as they are less deep than those of APK kits (12x11 and 13x12). However, there are no reinforcement hoops present. According to the premier catalogue, such hoops were a feature of projector kits. It is not a resonator neither as there is no extra inner layer of wood that would cover the hardware. The toms are not painted inside. I can't see any serial numbers on the drums.

The shells are made of two plies of wood, one dark brown (I suppose it's mahogany) on the outer layer, and lighter coloured wood on the inner layer (Birch? Maple?).

Finally, to add to the confusion, the 12" tom has 6 lugs, which is a feature of Projectors, as the the APK had 5 lugs only. That said, the bass drum has 8 lugs, while the Projectors are meant to have 10 lugs... ouh...

The sizes of drums are:

22x16

12x10

13x11

16x16

I would be greatful for any comments which could help me find out what kit is this.

Many thanks,

Marcin

I think your right, it's early 90's. Premier stopped making projectors and resonators in 1993 I think. I know APK, XPK projectors and resonators all had these lugs at one point. Could it simply be a mix of kits, with the whole lot reconditioned? It's a common wrap - could even be a re-wrap?

@Marcinetti:

I vote for: early Cabria from the late 90's.

Thank you for your help! So either APK, or some sort of mutant kit made out of different lines of Premier, or an early Cabria... DOH

In any case, it sounds really good with coated emperors, very powerful and warm tone, with lots of bottom end!

Cheers!

Hi,

I got an answer from another forum. It's a 98-00 Cabria 'made in England'.

Thanks for your help!
