I think they are either Birch or African Mahogany, with birch rerings. I know they are nice drums and sound great. I have the same drums badged as Beverley. Basically the same as Resonators without the shell inserts. Pics always help but yes, if they are in good condition, great drums.

They're birch. The african mahogany kits were early 70's before the Projector name came out. I have one of each with the Beverley lug,

Yep, birch. I've got one in a really odd finish, I'm pretty sure it's a factory finish. I'll get it set up and take some pics when I have a chance.

The early models came with the large size of the Beverley lugs - bass drum lugs, basically, with the insert holder for toms so the rods sits in at the correct angle.

This is one such kit:

Sorry for the lousy picture - I didnĀ“t do it!

The later models - from around 1990 - came with the traditional long Premier lugs.

Like this kit:

Not my pic either.....

All Projector had deep shells - typically 12x10 and 13x11 like those on both my kits - and were lacquered on the inside. Always birch as stated earlier.

I have cut down my toms on the later kit - to 12x8 and 13x9:

I also can add a vote of confidence in favor of ANY three-ply birch Premier drums. I recently picked up a 13x11 16x16 20x18 Projector that dates to around 1987-1988. Fantastic drums, just like their Beverley predecessors.

I helped a new drummer purchase a kit a few years back, they looked a lot like last pic in posterboy's post, had a natural wood finish, and I believe they were birch with beech re rings.
