premier piccolo snare double 10

Loading...

hi - I'm writing on behalf of a friend in Kosovo. Mladen owns a (presumably) vintage Premier double 10 piccolo snare. A few of the wires have snapped, and he would love to replace them, but we've had little luck finding replacement options. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I've done a bit of research, and the best advice I've seen is to scavenge a new mechanism off of another snare, but this is not really an option for us.

I'd love advice on figuring out an age for the drum too.

Thanks so much.

- tony

I guess Mike Ellis from here has the answer:

Without pics it's hard tell infos (age etc.) about that drum!

You may also want to have him replace the muffler before he damages the heads. They are easy enough to find. As for replacement snares, you may need to try this site

I'd love advice on figuring out an age for the drum too.

It looks as "Premier PD 2010 Piccolo" - model "2000" series, 14 x 4" shampagne sparkle, hot-calendered 4-ply maple shell with beech force-rings.

One of the best world piccolo parallel snares about 1966 - 1973.

Try this company for the wires. And I'm pretty sure that if they won't ship to you, someone on the forum would be more than happy to help you with a re-mailing service. It's just how we roll, helping and taking care of each other is a mainstay of this site.

I have a snare exactly like this (blue aquamarine sparkle faded badly?) bought new in 1960. It came with a single wider snare of 18 strands. It has a wrap around end to the snare that is held to the chromed copper threaded bar on the snare mechanism by wire tension when mounted.. I have seen this drum described as a Royal Ace from 1964 on another site and I have also a chromed metal shell version of the same drum with the bigger premier badge which I cannot date. I hope this post is still helpful in 2016

The snare is a Royal Ace circa 1960-1966 - Finnish birch with beech re-rings

Premier never used maple till 1992 in the Signia line
