Premier Metal Snare

Hey so a while back I upgraded my drums and purchased a Tama Artstar II on Craigslist with some cymbals that i'm fairly sure dated back to the 70's.

It also came with this metal (I'm assuming it's steel, totally new to researching anything about metal snares) snare.

I Love the sound of this snare and I just changed all my tom drum heads (this is the first time having ever done this) and I now decided to tackle the snare heads and chain.

I then discovered that my strainer won't stay locked in (unless it has a zip tie...) So my questions are:

what would it take to get the strainer replaced if I need to?

how old is this snare?

What do you think the value would be?

Hi goto wwwdrumarchive.com have a look at various models. The strainer on these premiers are great but if the arm is bent it wont lock. Take it apart and have a good look what is going on.....sean

The so-called "Speedboat" lugs (the double-ended ones like yours doesn´t, but the single ended ones on lugs do resemble speedboats) tells that this is a 1005 snare - if it is @5" deep.

This is the cheapest metal snare from Premier at that time (late seventies-eighties), formerly sold as an Olympic. In the UK, this should cost as low as £30-40 - different here in Denmark where Premiers are not that plentiful.

This doesn´t mean it is a bad snare - not at all. Premier just made alu-snares and other things that cost more.

A new original strainer is available on ebay uk for £25 - maybe a little excessive for a 1005, but if you like it? Otherwise, there are plenty of Taiwonese strainers with the same distance between holes, and some of them are in fact better than the original. Maybe you could find a complete TW snare for less than the £25 locally - and get a useful hoard of extra rods and so on at the same time.

Your choice.
