Premier Dominion Super

Loading...

Hi (i'm new to this forum)

Recently purchased this Premier Dominion Super off Ebay, gave it a polish and put modern heads and snare wires on it, it sounds great. I would realy like to know more about these drums if anyone has any info. I know they were 1930's however I cant find a serial stamp to indicate any other date. I was curious to know how much they are worth if anything anyone has an idea (I wouldnt be looking to sell though). Also if there is anyone that would have parts such as snare wires and the snare throwoff levers.

I also have the chrome and nickle 6.5" versions (see last pic).

Any info would be great

Cheers

Cheers :) took a couple of weeks to buff up the finish, and a bucket load of WD40 to get the mech loose. I can see why this finish was dicontinued though, it does tarnish very fast constantly polishing it. I love these drums, they are an absolute pain to set up and snares can be very tempromental but once sorted they sound great very sensitive with deep tone. Would realy like to get hold of the original throw off leavers which by the sounds of it are pretty rare.

Great work on the epoxy built lug genius idea - Looks like your lugs are the same finish as this one should pollish up great. Do you still have the drum ???

Hi Ghydes, I do still have both drums. These are awesome drums, eh? You were so so lucky to still have the throw-offs on those snares! I've yet to get around to lacquering the Major's brass shell though.

The lugs on the Major are chromed, so came up quite well, however the Super's lugs have that 'Regal' finish, which was a kind-of 'old gold' spray job over dull cast-iron, which I will leave as-is.

So - onto the next one, which at this point is a Tama Imperialstar 14x5 in chrome from the 70's-80's I assume, with an oval badge, made in China. Missing 6-lug batter rim, but everything else all there and in remarkably good shape. Bit o' rust inside in the dust-filled resonant bearing edges - no surprise with top head missing! - £5 ($8 / 6.5 Euro) at Brick Lane market in East London this morning. Well, it'll keep me quiet for a bit!

Wow, what a snare! Beautiful!

I have a Premier De Luxe of similar vintage that right now is with friend for attention to damage to the shell - he is a very cunning metalworker with a full workshop. I really hope it can become as nice as yours....

The Tama, being made in China, is definitely not from the seventies or eighties, is is likely not more than 10 years old. Tama resurrected the Imperialstar-name and fitted it to their next-to lowest range.

Regards

Jon
