Premier 'Club' Series ('79-'81)

Loading...

Hi everyone,

Does anyone of you guys have experience or further knowledge about Premier's "Club" Series in terms of sound and Quality?

Facts I found out:

- 1980 Premier renames 'Olympic' into 'Club'

- Birch Shells with Beech Rings

- Duroplastic wrapped Shells

- Triple flange Steel Hoops

- Black but chrome BD Leg Mounts

Thanks and Regards,

Lars

PS: I'm NOT talking about the small (mostly seen in silver) "Artist Heritage Club Kit " available from around 2000 on.

I had a lovely Premier Club series a few years back, in Polychromatic Gold. It was a concert tom variety, the BD had batter and reso heads but the 12, 13 and 16 (traditional depths) were single headed. The build quality was excellent. The kit was lightweight but at the same time solid. The overriding impression for me was that it was a very quiet kit. I had the ubiquitous pin stripes on it, and used to play it in a church situation - which it suited well. The tone was OK but obviously the pin stripes deadened the sound a fair bit. It wouldn't be suited to rock music. I do regret selling it now (don't we always) but there you go, I have a Yamaha 7000 series now from around the same era so I can't complain! Doug

Hi Doug,

Thanks for your informative Reply. I was asking because of a very interesting 'Club' Kit (Refurbished 22/12/13/16 + Chrome Snare in Black - see Pic) on the bay for 180 USD/120 GBP/ 160 Euros.

Unfortunately I didn't get it because the seller wasn't willing to ship the Kit.

Would be very cool to have a Birch 5- Piece Set in Black...

I have owned both Beverley and Premier Projector 3-ply birch shelled kits (professional ranges, most would agree). I also played a Club at a gig not long ago. Other than the lugs, the sound was classic Premier 3-ply birch. Good choice if the price is right!
