Premier Bass Drum Pedal. How old?

Loading...

A year ago or so I bought from Ebay a "vintage" Premier pedal to go with the 28 inch Premier Popular bass drum that I rescued from a deceased neighbour's house clearance a couple of years ago. I thought it was 1950's, but having just seen a "1935 Swingster" footboard listed on Ebay, I wonder if it is much older. It looks identical to the footboard on mine.

Can anyone offer a comment?

Back to on-topic ;-)

Yours is a nice and clean 1951 'Speed pedal' - not any earlier one.

Back in the 30s the engineering wasn't so advanced.

Ralf

NB: I assume that the beater isn't that old. I'd date it to the 70s (but maybe I'm wrong).

I know Olympic prints their name on the footboard. Does your Premier have the name printed on the footboard? V

The bass pedal could be either late 30s or late 40s, Premier was pretty advanced in the late 30s, the Premier flat based stands of the late 40s were designed in the late 30s including Swingster pedals and hi hat stands. Premier was way beyond American manufacturers

My information arises out of a Premier's catalogue of 1951.

So - if Capt.wierd is correct (I have no doubt, that he is), it means that Premier were selling the same hardware stuff for more than a decade.

Definitely other time like today, huh?

That bass pedal goes all the back to 1935. Its production didn't end till around 1951 0r 52 when the 250 appeared. In fact, that Swingster foot plate appeared on the "new" flat based hi hat stands before being replaced by the 250 foot plate.

The original flat based stands appear in the very very rare 1940s catalog, its more of a price sheet than a catalog and I've only seen it once. These ended in and around 1948-50 and the new flat based stand lasted until the Rokfast stands appeared around 1967
