Anyone know a source for replacement grommets to reattach Premier badges?

Occasionally they're on E bay.

This is going to hack off the vintage crowd, but one suggestion given was to actually drill for a large vent on the part of the drum facing the drummer and use a bolt and nut to secure the badge on the side that faces the audience.

Otherwise, that's a tough item to find...

Edit: I suppose you could stick the badges on with double-side tape and wait around until you find the small, small grommets. Like I said- they do turn up on e bay on occasion...

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Greetings. I have a set of early 70's Olympics in aquamarine sparkle that I have been considering recovering (at least the kick drum) and have the same problem.

I have a thought that would probably work but have not tried it. I would get a piece of aluminum tube stock (Olympics have an aluminum grommet as opposed to a brass) that is the same diameter and thickness as the Premier grommets. I would cut them quite a bit longer than necessary and then use a grommet tool to set the exterior flange.

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=20917&highlight=Grommet+tool

The exterior flange on the Premier grommets is not rolled over like most US grommets. Instead, it is a very gentle flange (at least on the Olympics) which should be easily created with the grommet tool. Once the exterior flange is set, I would cut the grommet tube to length as I am assuming the interior end may have been damaged in the first step. Then I would inseert the grommet, reverse the tool and set the interior flange.

Again, I have no idea how well this would work, but it seems reasonable. Finding the correct size tubing would be the hard part.

Another thought is using a plumbing "******" as the exterior flange of those is almost identical to the Premier grommet. The only concern there is a.) they are brass and b.) in imperial sizes they may be a bit too small.

On the other hand, if Mikey has the correct grommets, I would purchase a few myself. :-)

Two notes regarding my above post:

1.) that would be a "plumbing. N I P P L E"

2.) I did contact Premier directly and they no longer have any of that stock.

From delboydrums

I contacted them before posting here, he didn’t have any Premier grommets in stock, he referred me to a drum shop in Germany but they don’t have it either.

That may have been Gerd at SW Drums (who are superb).

UK vintage traders may be your best bet?

In recent years I would've suggested Nick Hopkin, but he recently ceased trading. I used to get mine from Classic Drums, but sadly Len Howe passed away over a year ago.

You could try Tristan at Drumattic:

or Rusty Drums:

or Jo Cox:

or Orange Tag:

Failing that, there seem to be a few brass grommets for sale on eBay
