Premier 1970's Royal Purple

Loading...

Hello! I’m hoping we can get some help to ID a vintage 1970’s drum set we have acquired for our son. I have attached a few pictures (they were disassembled as he was working on putting on new heads at the time). I have listed serial numbers for each drum. We know it is Premier Royal Purple and made of birch, but I’d like to know which set or any details you can provide. Any clues to the history of this set will be much appreciated!

22” Bass: 13511

13 x 9” Tom: 4105

14 x 10” Tom: 8141

16 x 15” Tom: 9464

Those drums should not be hard to identify. Premier only used those Beverley lugs for a short time. In the 1975 catalog it's called the "Powerhouse" #6500.

Thanks for the help! I'm not sure about the African Mahogany...I think it may just look darker due to the poor lighting in my basement and the cell phone picture, but I could be wrong. We are novices to the drum world so we've enjoyed researching this set we acquired. It is our 13yr old's first acoustic set since his junior set he got when he was 5 (he's had an electric set for little while). He's really getting involved with his school's bands and appreciates the history behind these drums.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure that one rack tom is African Mahogany. Would be curious to see the other interiors. It wasn't uncommon for Premier to sell kits with mixed wood types; birch and AM.

The interior of one of my Premier AM B303 toms.

Cheers.
