Pre WW2 Premier Set?

Loading...

HELLO!

New to the forums! In high hopes of getting some information on this set.

Found this set inside of a construction dumpster near a church undergoing modern improvements about 20 years ago. The church itself was built in 1925 which leads me to believe this set was used regularly till it was put away and forgotten till it was throw away in 1997.

Any information about the history and monetary value of this set would be much appreciated. YES, it will be for sale shortly. I have ordered the correct pre international heads in Fiberskyn and Ambassador Bottoms. Going to look AMAZING!

Yes, I already have the missing Snare lugs. This set is complete, minus hardware and cymbals.

Thanks Vater! It was pretty incredible. The only reason I spotted this is because my Uncle and I were making a Bid on the church roof repairs. When we were on the roof survaying the damage I happened to look down just for thrill and BAM! From the 5th story I looked straight in the bottom of the trash container... OMG is that a drum set?

We also found A Butterscotch Fender Telecaster in mint condition, and array of 10-12inch Zildjian Cymbals and Hardware. My Uncle, an Avid Guitarist still has the Tele' stored away till this day. Good Stuff...

Howya,

That's a wonderful find Sir. What you have is an immediate post war Premier from the period when the company were truly going from sword to ploughshare mode. This badge was followed in 1951ish by the script style you have on yr Ace snare. That White Pearl wrap lasted until probably the mid 50s when it was replaced by the tighter patterned version. I had a similar find myself last year, I also have an Ace in the Black Pearl and another couple in the White. A post war badged and a post script badge, circa mid 50s Super Ace. I also have a mid 50s set in the same wrap that is in remarkable shape, I think it may be my favourite Premier wrap of all time ...

This wrap is particularly susceptible to yellowing as you can see! That floor tom may originally have come with a cradle, the retro fitting of those strip mounts is pretty common. The legs though are not Premier.

Incidentally, i've just sold a set from that era along with a 14x6.5 Ivory paint over brass No2 snare. they do command a decent price, not many about in good condition ...

Hope that helps,

Spart

Thanks for chiming in. Take a look at the 2nd photo of the snare... Was it common to have the inside of the shell painted? Ive looked over and over at this and it looks like it was factory painted... Any Suggestions?

Yessir, standard practise up to and including the script badge era. Yours looks in great condition. The reso head damper is possibly an afterthought, never seen one like this before ...

Awesome!

Ill run downstairs and the more detailed pictures of the snare mufflers.

Ill post pictures of the complete set in the next coming weeks. Still waiting on heads from Remo.

Any ideas what they are worth?

What a fantastic score! It still stuns me that anyone would just throw out a drum kit, regardless of age, brand etc. And the Tele! That doesn't happen very often. It seems to me of all the instruments, drums are the most likely to be found in the trash. I could be mistaken of course, not having actually researched this, but there appears to be more reports of drums thrown away than any other musical instrument. Can I be really non-PC and say all non-drummers are stupid? :D Maybe I should retract that...
