Pre searial number keystone badge

Loading...

I recently acuired a preserial number Luddy marching snare. I has been painted green with yellow pokadots on it lol. The badge is painted over. Before I attempt to strip the paint off of the badge, I wanted to ask y'all a few questions.

1. Is the badge solid brass or what?

2. Will paint stripper hurt the badge?

3. Will laquer thinner hurt the bage?

4. Have you ever encountered this and how did you fix it?

My 1st thought is to remove the badge and soak it in laquer thinner for a day, if that dont do it then soak it in paint stripper and see if that works. Then, buff it with my lil dremel tool buffing gizmo.

I recently acquired a 1965 Luddy 14x14 F.tom that a school was throwing out!!!It had been poorly spray painted black, including the badge and grommet.

I needed a 14x14 to complete a 20,14,12, 5x14 I was restoring and knew it was going to have to be re-covered. I used stripper and it worked great...no harm to the brass badge. I eventually removed the badge, covered the set in Blk oyster pearl and used Ludwig grommets from Precision...great results!! I'll post pics soon. Oh yes, I used Flitz on the badge to shine it up abit.

I soaked the badge in paint stripper for 3-4 minutes and the paint slid right off. Turns out, it wasnt a preserial badge. the paint had covered up the serial number. It's a 1966 model.

now I have to decide what color to wrap it. I am also going to wrap rewrap a old cheap floor tom and use it for a lil table in my drum room. I am using my 20" rewraped floor tom for a trash can with a vintage 22" Zild ride cymbal for the lid. Is that sacreligious? lol

I think you should make a tuck and roll top for that 20" and send the ride to me!
