Powder coated hardware stripping

Loading...

Has anyone here tried stripping powder coated hardware? Recently I have seen some sets for reasonable money but with colored lugs, rims, mounts etc. UUUUUHG-ly....and chipped to boot.

I've used paint stripper. Messy and time consuming of course. And unfortunately it becomes apparent why it was powder coated in the first place.....the surface finish is bad!

There is a website selling what looks like chrome powder coating on Speed King parts. It looks great in the photos, a real professional job.

I’ve seen the kits for sale from car restoration places. Eastwood has one in their catalogue.

I’ve never tried it - I think it would be difficult to apply a good, smooth coat. But it looks terrific on their site. Which I’ve forgotten.....

The site is: https://polyphonicdrums.com/

The pedals look nice. Now that I look again, the footboards could be polished. A bead blasted piece can look like chrome after a pro polish job.

The site also makes me think I’m not asking enough for pedal restoration!

Then again, I don’t have any overhead...
