Post your Pre-trans Stamp Avedis Zildjians

I didn't see one, so I thought I would start a thread for pre-trans stamp A Zildjians. If you're not sure what you've got, there should be a cymbal ID thread for that.

Just to be clear, some say that there are two stamps that predate the trans stamp, and some who don't think that to be the case. I'd rather not debate that here. Just pics, sounds, and stories.

Just picked this up from feebay. 18" second stamp. Looks like hell, but sounds incredible. Lots of wobble, mellow, dark, quick decay, dry. 1257 grams as is. Using CAD, I figured it was about 1358 grams before repair.

Looks like someone polished the lathing off the top a long time ago. More recently, someone took a rotary sander to the bottom. Not too much though, thankfully.

Show 'em if you got 'em.

I've already documented 5 stamps which predate Trans Stamps, and there is a strong possibility there are more. Here is the link showing the details:

I made the details about the 5 less obvious on my site because many people have enough problems working out two, and just want to know that their cymbal is pre WW2. And speaking of WW2 I've also done an analysis of the military marks which come up in this context:

+1 with Steve on the 5ish different stamps. The point where I diverge from some is that I'm certain that those stamps either co-existed together or at least co-mingled and overlapped to a large degree.

Take a close look at just my five stamps and you'll see cymbals that have a different top than bottom stamp. There's way more going on here than a company using one stamp, then next another, then next another etc etc.

It seems likely that different stamps were applied at least (largely) according to thickness and probably according to which team made it - (put me in the camp that the best cymbal smiths were responsible for the most difficult output). I'm just saying.

This is my 11" paper thin splash (276 gram)..... I actually purchased this only in the 1970's as being a N O S item ... Sounds great and I gave it a good work out for many years prior to realizing just how vintage it was. Luckily I looked after it along the way and it's condition is good.

Nice to see this one again. You still hold the top place in my database for longest time lag between manufacture and first retail purchase. :)
