Possible Record

OK gang, I think I may have found a new record for extra holes in a drum...

32 extra holes in 9x13...yes 32...30's Slingerland tom..poor thing. Other than the swiss cheese it's in pretty good shape.

I had this thing sitting for a couple of months and knew is had extra holes but hadn't taken the time to count. I have decided to go ahead and try to salvage it. Wish me luck. No hoops and most of the lugs were gatored so this one will take some time.

30's Radio King - 26, 13, 13, 16
49 - WFL Ray McKinley - 26, 13, 16
58 - Slingerland Duco
58 - Slingerland Krupa Deluxe
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 20, 12, 14
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 22 (need), 13, 16
And some others..

Any idea as to why the holes? Was someone using it as a grater or something?

Best of luck, however!

Jaye has a good idea...

Is this a religious drum? Because, it seems really "holy".

You guys are too funny... I have looked and looked at this thing and can't figure out what was going on with it. It looks like it may have been a calf skin bottom drum but there are no tack holes..4 different muffler locations..it's really strange.

30's Radio King - 26, 13, 13, 16
49 - WFL Ray McKinley - 26, 13, 16
58 - Slingerland Duco

I've got 36 extra, but they don't count as much 'cause they're on a 14x22 bass drum. 32 extra on a 9x13 seems like there are more holes than shell! No rhyme or reason to the ones on my bass....Aside from the obvious (different leg mounts, different tom mounts), there's a good 20 something pointless drillings.

In my defense, a guy was throwing it in with some other shells I bought and I couldn't resist.

Maybe these drums came from someone who didn't like playing with a click and preferred the groove to "breathe" a bit. This one may have actually had a sinus condition.
