Hello everydody,I recently find this snare drum.It is made in Japan, has 10 lugs, and lugs are identical with snare drum Luxor,a Japan brend I also have.Interesting part is that this Japan brand Luxor have similar (or identical)lugs like Rogers snare drums Luxor.Any body any ideas? Was it any kind of colaboration with Rogers amd Japan or?I'm suprised that this snare has ten lugs, wooden snare from Luxor set has only 6.Any comment on that is usefull.

Thanks!

It's a '60's or '70's Japanese stencil, maybe by Pearl, or Star (Tama).

Yes, even back then they DID make deluxe snare drums...10-luggers, equipped with higher-quality throwoffs. I had a Whitehall (Pearl stencil) from the '60's which was a 10-lugger and really, a very good metal snare (it was COS, but it had well shaped edges, a crimped snare bed, and it was really heavy)...it was by no means a cheap knockoff.

The Japanese companies did do blatant copies of the Rogers lugs...I have seen that before.

I like that throwoff/strainer....that is a little rare to find on a Japanese...(if it is original, which it looks to be).

Ive seen those copycat lugs before, but when you get a genuine beavertail up agaisnt it....... there is a lot of difference.

They even copped the name Luxor from Rogers.

The metal snare probably had a badge like the wood one...just glued or taped on...which fell off at some point. May or may not have said Luxor...could have been a lot of different stencil names.

For the head fit...as long as you don't have to really bear down to get them on, or use a hammer or such, you are OK. If it was a real fight...you can try Remo Fiberskyns or Aquarian American Vintage heads (not MODERN Vintage, AMERICAN Vintage). They tend to be just slightly wider in diameter...really not much, but certainly 1-2mm wider.

If you are ordering online, go with the Aquarians...if you have a store which ahs the Remos, bring the entire drum there to check the fit.
