Please Help.. Unknown Brass Snare c1800's

Can anyone help identify this snare. No makers mark. Copper or brass shell with string snare. "August 1888" handwritten on bottom of head. Is this a toy or real deal? Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

This is a Lyon & Healy snare. The odd protrusions w/ holes on some of the hooks are for a wire marching carrier. ( do you have a photo of the front tensioning system ?)

Hi olddrummer61,

Cool drum! +1 on tdennis' suspicion that it could be a Lyon & Healy. Late 19th century looks about right so the dates penciled on the heads may well be original / authentic. It's no toy; this is the type of drum they played back then. Looks like the hoops may have been refinished and the shell has been buffed out more recently.

Have you opened up the drum? There may be marks, dates or label inside.
