Please help me identify this cymbal

Loading...

I once had a 20" that was very similar to this one, but it was a slightly later small-stamp early-mid-50s cymbal (if I'm remembering my stamp eras correctly) But I definitely thought this one has a bit more hand-hammered quality to it than that one, although both were fairly thin and had a really cool wobble to the edge when played. Thanks for the input, Bill, I know you've done your homework! Several occasions you've pointed out lathing, hammering and other aspects that support the stamp eras, etc.. so thanks for the input. The cymbal is now on the set and played whenever I sit down at it..

We're only guessing its a late '40s, early 50's trans of course. Without a obvious stamp or the opportunity to look at it up close no one can be certain of exactly what it is. But if Bill believes its an A, than its an A.

Don't have to do that Bill, we're on the same page. I'm just surprised the cymbal looks that good and there is no sign of the stamp. There must be something, even if its badly worn. I suppose they could have slipped one without a stamp. What are the chances of that?

Slim, but it has happened only rarely.
