I recently bought the orange kit and then the different coloured tom seperately, I know these are Japanese vintage but what brand exactly? they have no badges as you can see. The orange sparkle kit sounds absolutely amazing

Hi..Your first two photos of the tom thats a Pearl made drum from the 70's i could by one of 50 names that were sold under Pearl..The other photos of the gold drums these are also made by Pearl 60's again one of 50 names. The badges were sticker type of name badges on these drum..On the bass drum the lugs have been replaced with Pearl copy's, also the claws are 70's Rogers and the T-rods are 70's Ludwig...Mikey

Thanks for your help Mikey . The orange rack tom has completely different lugs and finish to the rest of the kit so I think its definitely from a different kit.( Ive been told it was made by star?) It seems odd that someone would go to all that trouble putting all the different brand parts on a kit like this doesnt it?

Well, someone on a shoestring budget may have gathered up an orphan drum or two and put together a kit on the cheap. Someone may have given someone else the incomplete set and he was able to find something close to complete it. Some drum freak with parts everywhere may have put together a cheap kit for some kid down the street. Someone may have dumpster dived for most of the kit and scavenged whatever parts would fit it to make it a playable kit. Etc. etc. There are actually millions of possibilities of how drum kits come to be what they are today. The more I read this site, the less I am surprised about ANY possibility of how drums come together........

have a wonderful evening

The lugs on the orange sparkle rack tom are Pearl's Slingerland copies, not Star's. A shot of the mount would help us tell for sure if it's a Pearl or Star made drum.

If you could post a few more close up pics of the snare and floor tom, we could probably tell you a bit more about your set.
