Hello all. I have a chance to get this drumset for a project/custom set I want to do. Question is, what is it? Why does it have 10 lugs? Was that done on import knock offs? The toms are 12x12 13 x13 16x16 and appear to be very thick!! I can't really tell from the pics the guy sent me if the grain is going vertical or if it's just his camera, but I am very curious as to why the 10 lugs would show up on a stencil type drum if that is what it is. All of the tags have been removed and the wrap is off all drums except for the bass. The guy seems to think they are older Tama's but I think more like knock off. I don't know so I come to you for help!! Like I said, project, but is it worth doing? Thanks in advance !!!
Please help identify this drum!!!
I would say no. I have seen kits like this boasting 10 lugs etc.. I think that is what this is. Tama would have a badge or the tom holder would say Tama. I don't think they ever had badges. You would see some color variance on the bass drum by the grommet
Depending on the project, I would not since the project will end up costing more then the drums are worth depending on what you are planning on doing.
I have noticed people buying individual drums and making kits and they look great when they are done.
I would probably search for Ludwig 3-plys or Slingerland drum orphans and piece together a set and then make the investment on the labor and materials.
That is if you are into the vintage sound.
Then again, what is your plan for a project?

Well, the project isn't on a Government spending level. Ha ha. I was thinking of trying my hand at making my own bearing edges, and sanding down the exterior ply as smooth as I can get it, then give it a decent paint job using inexpensive paints from the autobody supply shop. Was thinking of a two stage paint with maybe some sort of design. The set is going to be a practice set anyways. I can get this set for next to nothing. Should I wait for some better drums to come along before spending the time on the project? Thanks for the input!! :)
If that is the case, and you are not investing in new wrap, then
it would be a good practice restoration set if it has all of the
parts.

Yes, all hardware is there and bagged and numbered as to where all the lugs came from when this guy took it apart.
