i just traded a 5pc kit of vistalites for this 4pc set of white marine mistery drums.

1. notice the renforced rim of the shells,

2. they at one time had "keystone" shaped badges on them cueing from the fade marks around the vent.

3. pay no attention to the later bass drum spurs and tom mount on the tom of the bass. the bass has been altered (dremeled) for them at some point.

here are the pictures.

also keep in mind that the PO installed non matching blu/olive badges and after "unglueing" them there are clear prints from a keystone badge of some era.

Why did you trade the Vistalites?

becuase i wanted something that i could gig with out the worry of breaking a drum.

the other two reasons were that like the wood drum sound, and i wasnt a fan of smoke finish that was the least transparent of the transparent shell finishs.

all good reasons. I got a vistalite that never leaves the house.

i wish i could manage more kits, but space and money only permit one "all around" kit,

i am really happy with these drums after putting them together, they are one of the best sounding non mic'ed kits i can remember playing, they are very powerful, and they have there own warm dark over tones that you cant get with acrilic, or lesser wood kits,

What in the flippity-blastin' heck?

Those look like WFL's from the 50s! why would someone try to disquise them as 70s era drums? Maybe someone out there actually preferred the parallelogram badge to the keystone? Falling Do

In the 60s (correct?) Ludwig started painting the inside of their shells white... and then later the "granitone" then a clear lacquer once they changed the inner ply from mahogany to maple. Those look like mahogany interiors with no paint, which would make them pre-60, I believe...

are there any extra holes in the bass drum, maybe 4 small ones in a rectangle shape for a former rail consolette?

wait... the bass drum is of a different era... it has the white paint...

in '69 they switched over to the parallelogram badge, I'm guessing they could have put the bass drum out with the white interior and parallelogram badge... maybe the original WFL bass was squished and they replaced it with a newer one and decided to take the tom badges off and match them up with the newer bass?
