Please help identify Swingstar Set (serial numbers)

Hi and happy new year to all of you:)

I already asked about this set in a Tama forum but only got one answer, so maybe some of you guys might help me identify a Tama Swingstar Set.

These are the serial numbers:

Bassdrum 16303653

Tom 1 16303539

Tom 2 16303591

Floor Tom 16304075

Snare (not sure, if this is a Swingstar) 15403111

What kind of wood was used those days?

I could buy this set including the hardware (is this Superstar hardware?) and some cymbals

HiHat Meinl Marathon 14" Medium

Ride Meinl Marathon 20"

Crash Paiste 302 16" (I know these are not the real hot stuff ;) )

for 300 Euros. Is this set worth it, is it a reasonable price? I might use it in a Elvis Show Band (I'm thinking of a new wrap maybe...)

Just to point it out: I know that this is not the real "worth collecting vintage drumset", I'm just trying to get as much information as I can before I buy it and maybe I can benefit from some of your experience.

Any help, links and information highly appreciated!

Red-badge Swingstars are early 1980s as far as I know - not top quality drums, but not bad either, their shells at least. There was some info on this site, I hope it helps:

I think the cymbals are entry-level, so not worth much.

whats weird to me is red badge swingstars usually have pointy lugs not the step square ones

i have a set of black t badge in the same color same lugs (aspen white) purchased in 85 or 86

Stair-step lugs probably makes them '84s... I'd be worried about those XLR jacks drilled into each drum

Depending on your intended use, they could be good OR bad, but has to drop the resale value

I got a five piece shell kit for $250 Cdn

Yeah davezedlee, I was wondering about those XLR jacks too,

but maybe they could be kind of handy, I don't know...

@ fatchoppers: once I decide to buy them, I don't think

I will sell them again, I could use them as a set for students

while teaching etc.

I'm actually looking for a Superstar set, but they are somewhat

hard to find here in Germany, at least right now as I'm looking

for them... ;-)

These Swingstars seem to be modified, at least with the jacks and

maybe the lugs, too?

They are definetly past 1980!

I think they still used Luan Mahagoni on this but they did´nt spray them with zolacoating anymore:-)!
