Please help ID these British snare wires

Loading...

The snare wire set pictured third from top in the first photo and third from L-R in the second photo is a new old stock Premier 12 for the Premier 2000 Snare Drum.

The snare wire set pictured at the bottom of the first photo and to the far right in the second photo is a new old stock Premier model P651 as marked on its cardboard enclosure which bears all the hallmarks of vintage 60's era issue. Total length 13 1/2 inches. I have so far been able to find in pre-war catalogs a model P650 designated as the internal snare wires for the Dominion Ace and other Dominion Snare Drums, yet I find no model P651 listed.

Then there's this unidentified matching pair of wires:

The top two snare wires in the first photo are new old stock, sets of 10 wires each with butt plates styled like the Premier 12 wires, but they are shorter in length (total length 41cm.), with small screw sized mounting holes spaced 40cm. apart.

There are no brand markings on them.

Could they be wires fitting vintage Premier parallel snare piccolo drums?...or perhaps snare wires fitting other brands such as John Grey or Carlton?

Any help with identification is greatly appreciated!

Don't know if this helps but I have two Premier 2000 alloy snare drums and one of them has a single 20 strand snare wire but the other earlier one from 1973 has two 10 strand snare wires like the ones pictured.

Thanks for your input, GaryNattrass!

The mystery is that the matched pair which appear to be designed like the Premier 12 set for the Premier 2000 Snare have mounting holes too small to accept the Premier 2000's height leveling screw heads. They are also shorter in length than the snares made for the 2000. This leads me to believe that these particular wires they must be secured with small flat head screws. Still hoping UK readers will come forward with their expert knowledge!

I am back home this weekend and will have a look at my snares and post pics to see if I can add anything further.

The top two are Ajax, the next is half a set of Premier 0655 or 0654 (depending on the overall length) and the bottom set are for a Super Ace (v rare).

Thanks ever so much, member mikeellis!

Are the Ajax wires compatible with any other snare drum makes/models?

Is the snare wire set shown in the photo the only set made for the rare Premier Super Ace?

Or is it one of two sets necessary for that drum?

Again, thanks for your expertise! Bowing
