Playing outdoors in 100* temps

Loading...

Well, this does not sound good, this outdoor gig tomorrow the temps are going to 100 with 100% humidity, this is the kind of weather they tell people to stay in doors, if I was younger I would not be so worried but at 59, doing a 90 min set, playing hard, not good. any ssuggestions besides lots of water?

Gatorade also. Lots of towels. Perhaps some extra shirts. Stretch well before you start.

A customer gave me some water with lemon juice, a small amount of vanilla extract and artificial sweetener. I couldn't stop drinking the stuff and the lemon helps.

I always drink lots of water and Gatorade. I also recommend a banana, helps with the potassium. Light snacks are best, granola bar. My favorite is the Clif bar, lots of good stuff in it.

It's when you don't sweat is when you have to worry....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

When I was a groundpounder in the military, they made us drink water until we were ready to throw up. Hydration is important BEFORE the actual event. Lot's of people wait until they are in the action to hit the water. Not a good plan. You should be loading up on water until your urine has no color whatsoever. Every time you urinate, drink more water. Start this at least 24 hours before your gig and you will be in the best possible condition, hydration-wise, you can be. Use the Gatorade during the gig to keep up hydration and all the other stuff in it but water is what you want to be pounding before the event. Also, this is not meant to be presumptious, but drinking any alcohol before your gig is a terrible move as that will dehydrate you as well. Remember, your urine is nature's way of telling you if you need more water. Any color other than clear and you didn't drink enough for that demanding hour and a half session.

Good luck and have a blast!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Thanks for the advice, two things here, 1, my drums are fiberglass shells so the weather should not effect them, 2, we had practice wed night, and it was also hot, we practice like we play, hard, that night around 2 am, I got a leg cramp that felt like someone was cutting off my leg with a chain saw, it went on and off for 20 minuters, felt like eternity, which proves I did not have enough water, don;t want that to hapen again, G

SHADE! If at all possible avoid direct sunlight. Wear loose fitting, light, breathable garments.
